The High Riders Snowmobile Club, LLC presented an ATV/Snowmobile rescue sled to the town of Terryville Fire Department during the races being held on October 1, 2006. The rescue sled will be used by the town and available to neighboring towns to enable rescue work in difficult areas that cannot be reached with conventional vehicles. Nichols Trailers of Maine constructed the custom made sled which can be pulled by either an ATV or snow mobile.

Back in 2003 there was a young boy injured in the woods in a nearby town. The young boy fell and was seriously injured and the fire and rescue teams were called. With no way of getting Life Star into the woods and no way for the rescue team to get him out in time, it took over 4 hours to carry him out of the woods. The young boy passed away from his injuries on the way to the hospital.

High Riders club members Frank & Joanne Boutwell decided that we needed something for our club members' safety. With the boards approval, they started raising money for a rescue sled. They did a lot of searching for the best sled out there. They contacted Nichols Trailers in Maine, and told them that we were going to raise money for a rescue sled and it would take a few years to raise the $3,000.00 for it. Nichols Trailers were great about sending us posters for our fundraisers and working with us to improve their earlier versions of the rescue sled. The new sled is bigger and better then the earlier versions so it worked out great for us to wait and get something that is much better. The sled makers gave us the price of the earlier version plus a free sled conversion kit with skis for a savings of over $900.00.

Over the last 3 years, we have held raffles at each of the races with some prizes being donated by snowmobile dealers in central CT, vendors at the races and prizes we bought. The next fundraiser was Frank, Joanne & club member Peter Caron cooking Sunday morning breakfast once a month. The last event was a pasta dinner for the whole community to attend at the High Rider’s Clubhouse. We would like to give special thanks to Demase Caron, Jr. for his help at the Pasta Dinner.

Thanks to all the dedicated club members who volunteered their time and efforts. And thanks to all of you for your support in raising the funds needed.
